A Jar of Mayonnaise and two cups of coffee

I have seen this concept before but his is the best so far...

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.
He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - family,
children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions –
Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued,
there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

'Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

Monday, 16th. November 2009

Just a quick update this time.

I'm due to give another talk on Wednesday.
It is titled "Location, Location, Location"
- in this world but not of it.
- in the fellowship of saints.
- in the family of God.

Each of these locations have different aspects of our "walk in/with the Lord" and I will be endevouring to brings these out in the talk.

Family is going well as is my job. I praise the Lord for it is all his doing.

Sunday we had our secound meeting at Balla Balla Community Centre in Cranbourne. This time I was able to stay for the second meeting and not have to rush off to Box Hill. It is a good hall with plenty of natuaral light and and plenty of room.

"Carols by Candlelight" (CxC) rehearsals are going well. We are due to perform at Box Hill on the 20th. December (www.rci.org.au).

I will post my talk once I finish it.

Talk - Trust in the Lord

These are my notes on the talk I gave.
Please understand that the comments and views expressed here are my views and thoughts and cannot be attributed to anyone else.

Trusting in the Lord

John 1:1 ¶In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

In a previous talk, we spoke about the tongue being the small instrument that can have a massive influence on ourselves and those around us; I want to talk about talking.

But first…trust

Trust is having faith; having a belief that you put into action.

What is the basis of all arithmetic and mathematics?
What is the one mathemtatical thing that all computers everywhere depend on?
What is the highest single number/digit that we can count up to before repeating a sequence? [answer:1]
What is the highest number a computer count up to? [answer:1]

1 + 1 = 2 [the one mathemtatical thing that all computers everywhere depend on]

Do you trust that 1+1=2? Would you place your life in the balance believing in 1+1=2?

You do it every day.
Without matematics nothing we know in our society would work.
Without 1+1=2 we would not have mathematics, engineering, design, manufacturing, cars, TV, radio, etc.

So, we believe in our souls and take it as a given that 1+1=2 and think nothing of it and subconsciously basis our lives on this simple fact.

We depend on it and stake our lives on every day.
If 1 + 1 did not equal 2 then nothing would work! Houses would probably fall down, car would be unsafe in the extreme.

You have an active faith; a belief that 1+1=2 no matter what else happens.

Here is something else to have that type of faith in.

Joshua 1:5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

These are the words of God to Joshua.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Now, these are the words of our Lord to us.

John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

So, these are the words of God.

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

So, we can take these words as fact.

Romans 8:31 ¶What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

So, can we trust in the Lord just the same as we trust in 1+1=2?
Can we take it as a given and base all our actions on this fact?
Just as 1+1=2 you can believe as it days in Heb 13:5, that the Lord will never forsake you. You can believe that the Lord will never leave you.

Are you a good speaker?

Exodus 3:11 ¶And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

Exodus 4:10 ¶And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

Jeremiah 1:6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
7 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

Matthew 10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

Our tongue was the first thing that Lord changed when we received His Holy Spirit and it is the Spirit that speaks to us to teach us from the text of God’s Word (The Bible). As we read the text, the Spirit teaches; the more we read, the more we are taught. You want to develop your faith as we are exhorted to0 do in Jude 20, then read the Word as much as you can.

Once we have the Word in us; the amount is not important we are able to use what we have to talk; to talk to others.

But, we are timid and afraid. So, was Jesus.

Matthew 26:36 ¶Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

It is okay to be concerned. Jesus was and He asked, “let this cup pass” BUT, He also said, “not as I will, but as thou wilt”.

Don’t let the cup pass; don’t moment pass when you can speak.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

It is not up to you to make the words of God speak, they can do a great job all by themselves! Let God use them.

As Paul said to the Romans (8:31), “if God be for us, who can be against us?” So, prepare yourself to speak by reading the word. Remember who is on your side and with you always and don’t let the cup or moment pass, when you know you can speak because the Spirit WILL bring to your rememberence all things thjat you need to say. It has happened to me and to others. The same thing will happen to you. You will amaze yourself and be blessed at the same time.

For all these things to happen you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit as the disciples were on the day of Pentecost, and as others subsequently were filled (Romans 8:9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his). When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, it gives you abilities that are new. One of these abilities is to speak in tongues, or an unknown tongue, just as those that were there in the book of Acts. Please read the book of Acts before commenting on this amazing experience. As said by Paul (1 Corinthians 14:22  Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not), tongues is a sign to those around that you have recieved the Holy Spirit. With its receipt your life begins again and will never be better.

Amen

Week is gone but was a better week

I started this week with a clear book but by Wednesday I was booked solid.
Next week is looking good at this stage, as well. It is nice to know that there will be money coming in.

I gave the talk on Wednesay at the House Meeting and will include the notes in another post. The talk was about talking about the Lord and that we can trust on, and in, the Lord to be with us when we talk to others, and to give us the words to say. Also, that His words will not return void, as the scriptures say, therefore we can be assured that whatever we say is not in vain and that it is a worthwhile thing to do even if we don't see any results immediately.

Heather and I went to see "UP" last night and both agree that it was a good, fun film. There are a few movies coming up that we want to see.
- Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
- Planet 51 (animation)
- Where the wild things are
- Young Victoria
- G-Force (animation)
- Mao's Last Dancer
- Cloudy with a chance of meat balls
- The Time Traveller's Wife

Heather has read The Time Traveller's Wife and Mao's Last Dancer and says that they are excellent.
We have both books and so I will read them.

I have ordered Pilgrim's Progress and shall be picking it up today. I will review it here at a later date.
I am reading "Alien Earth" by Meagon Lindholm (also know as Robin Hobb). Interesting concept where the human race has been evacuated from Earth by a "benevolent" alien race before we are destroyed because of our mishanddling of the earth's ecology (greenhouse to the extreme) and become extinct. These aliens take recycling to the nth degree but do stop before "Soylent Green", although genetic manipulation is rife. As with her other books, the "Assasin" and "Liveship" series, there is much inspection of how the people themselves handle the various situations that arise. A wordy but enjoyable and well written book.

Today, another client another dollar. Adam is off to Geelong nad Heather is over at Sharon's to help her and clean house for her. I have enough here to keep me busy.

More later.

Sunday morning in the peace and quite

It is Sunday morning, Sep 13th. 2009 at 08:49am (don't forget that I'm in Melbourne, Australia so that the date and time stamp on this blog is not correct for my current time and date). As per usual, I'm up early, before anyone else. Heather is still in bed and Adam went down to Geelong with Grace, his girlfriend, yesterday afternoon, after the gathering at Raffey Lake Park for Paul's birthday.

Raffey Lake is a lovely area and the weather was perfect; around 26C/79F with a slight breeze and we had three tables worth of Paul's friends in attendence. A great time was had by all.

Grace Rogers is Adam's girlfriend and the daughter of a good friend who happens to be the caretaker of the Freshwater Creek Camp owned and run by our church (Revival Centres International) which is located on the Anglesea Road just outside of Geelong. Adam and Grace have known each other for many years and have just "got together" earlier this year.As with all young people in the Revival Centres they do not, and will not, have sex before marriage, as is directed by scripture which they both believe in. Also, they don't drink, smoke, swear, or partake in other vices so prevalent today (a common trait with all Revival people; for all spirit-filled people for that matter). I trust Adam completely in this matter.

Adam's driving is another matter. He received his first speeding ticket last week. He is a careful driver but has become a little, shall we say, over zealous of late. This ticket shall slow him down a bit.

I have been getting into scripture more of late and am preparing my next talk for the house meeting which I shall deliver on Wednesday. Our church has these house meetings all over Melbourne and are for church members in the local area to attend mid-week. I will talk on the topic of "Trusting in the Lord" with an emphasis on speaking to others about what the Lord has done for each of us; in other words, giving our testimony of the Lord to others.

My testimony of what the Lord has done in my life is that He saved my from self-implosion. I was an alcholic. I know that AA say that once you are an alcholic you always will be, but I can truely say that I *was* an alcholic because the Lord competely took away the desire for alchol from me some twenty years ago and I have not had the slightest desire to drink alchol since; none whatsoever.

Now this is saying something because I was drinking two or three cans of beer for breakfast just so my hands would stop shaking and I could go to work. I would have at least five pots of beer for lunch and carry a bottle of mouthwash in the car to rinse my mouth out before going back to work. Also, I had previously tried to give up drinking and suffered through alcholic withdrawal for three days (not a pleasant experience at all) but when the Lord filled me with His Holy Spirit (with the Bible evidence of speaking-in-tongues) and healed me, I didn't even get a headache! Since that day my life turned around and has improved each year to the extent that I actively look forward eagerly to see what th Lord has in store for me next.

I will post my talk here on Wednesday.

Monday (after first post)

Ordered "Shamwow" from their website after discussing it with Heather (wife of 22 years). Seeing that money is tight, I wanted Heather to agree that it was a worthwhile purchase. I usually do ask Heather about anything that pertains to the family. Ours is a partnership marriage; I can honestly say that she is my best friend as well as my lover and my wife.

A number of things to do today; most important to get money from Eagle that is outstanding so I can pay my outstanding bills.

More later...

In the begining...

Well, this is a first.

I've often thought that there must be a place where I can mind dump and relieve myself of the myraid things that surface in my mind that I want to remember then promptly forget as another situation/comdition imposes itself on my time and efforts. Maybe this is the place.

I am a devoted Spirit Filled Christian as is my whole family. We all "speak in tongues" to the Lord on a daily basis and enjoy His peace in this troubled time.

Interestingly, I was listening the a talk on the Bible that was recorded over ten years ago and in it there was reference to the troubles of that time; somethings never change. A good thing that the Lord never changes.

Feelings right now (as I believe, rightly or wrongly, that this is one of the purposes of a Blog) are relaxed; the body is weary but not tired.

I have just finished "building" a PC for a friend from church. This is one of the things I do for a living. I'm a Jim's Computer Services franchisee here in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I am a one person IT department for a number of small businesses in my local area as well as looking after individual domestic clients. It is enjoyable work but a big drop in finaces as I was earning $80K pa and now am down to around $25K pa but I have my sanity and anxiety fully under control which is more than I can say for some of my corporate collegues.

So, now to prepare for an enjoyable time at church (today is Sunday) and to complete my first post. Tomorrow the future awaits.
